Coen started off his career as lecturer in Electronics Engineering at the University of Pretoria. During this period he got his first taste of high tech start-ups through his involvement with LGI (Pty) Ltd and its evolution towards Technotron (Pty) Ltd. In 1983 he moved on to Armscor where he was divisional manager responsible for the defence industry’s Technology Management Portfolio. He got involved in his first startup company, Lambda Technology (Pty) Ltd as marketing director and key shareholder in 1988. In 1989 he founded DataFusion Systems (Pty) Ltd to address the voice technology market. DataFusion developed its own intellectual property in this fast changing field and became the South African market leader in 1996. In 1999 when he sold off his share of 50% in the company to the listed entity Spescom Ltd, it employed 250 people. He founded BrainWorks (Pty) Ltd in July 1999. Coen holds a BSc Eng degree, an MBA and has completed the Owner- Manager Executive Programme at Harvard.
Darryl commenced his career at Eskom in 1984, managing new power station construction projects and later taking responsibility for all aspects of civil and environmental aspects for construction of Majuba Power Station. In 1998 he took up the position of Deputy General Manager responsible for Technology Development and Innovation at IDC, managing the Support Programme for Industrial Innovation and consulting on innovation aspects of a number of development projects.
He is also a lecturer in Management of Technology at Wits and Unisa and has co-authored a well known South African management textbook. Darryl joined BrainWorks in September 2001. Darryl holds an MSc (Eng), BCom and a MS degree in Management of Technology from MIT.

BrainWorks Management is a networked organisation with a core team of experienced managers that have worked in, and been involved with entrepreneurial companies. In specialist areas, we rely on partners that reflect the same values and ideals as the core team. Our fee structure reflects our long-term involvement and commitment to our client companies. Our products and services are focused in three main areas:
Specialist Services - We provide specialist consulting services aimed at the technology intensive organisation. These services are all aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the company in various ways.
Venture Accelerator - Our Venture Accelerator is a virtual incubator for our clients. We provide hands on advice, mentoring to the CEO and top team, access to our extensive networks, access to finance as well as the specialist services listed above.
Venture Financing - Our close involvement with angel investors, VC fund managers and government incentive schemes enables us to get our clients the right funding at the right time. Our own BrainWorks Venture Fund manages funds on behalf a number of Angel investors and will make seed/start-up investments in selected companies.
